Jerrod Davis was sworn in to serve a two-year term on the Luther Board of Trustees. Davis took the oath of office on May 9 and then participated in his first trustee meeting. He was appointed by the Board of Trustees in April to fill a vacancy created when no candidates filed to run for the open seat during the February filing period.
Davis takes the seat held by Brian Hall, elected in 2019. At Hall’s last meeting in April, the Board thanked him for his service and said they would miss serving with him.
At the May meeting, Jeff Schwarzmeier took the oath to begin his second four-year term on the Board. He was the only candidate to file for office for the 2023 election season.
The board also selected a mayor and vice mayor and was assigned liaison positions. In Luther, under the Town form of government, the Board of Trustees chooses among themselves for the mayor and vice mayor positions. Terry Arps was selected as mayor, and Schwarzmeier as vice mayor.
Liaison Positions:
- Police Department – Terry Arps
- Public Works – Jerrod Davis
- Fire Department – Carla Caruthers
- Parks & Planning – Terry Arps
- Administration – Jeff Schwarzmeier
In an application letter to the board, Davis wrote his family moved to Luther in 2017. He has spent 15 years at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, spending seven years in wildlife law enforcement, and the last eight years as a senior programs biologist.
“The position will undoubtedly come with things I seldom have to contend with. I consider myself to be adaptable and open-minded when looking for solutions, and I am willing to learn about the aspects of local government that I am not familiar with. My main goal, if chosen to fill the vacant position, is to see Luther grow and prosper on a safe and sustainable path for our current and future residents to enjoy,” said Davis.
