The Luther Board of Trustees received a monthly report from the Town Manager at the Oct. 11, 2022, meeting.
Highlights from Town Manager Scherrie Pidcock’s report:
- SALES TAX. Latest numbers show sales and use (internet) tax revenues are slightly higher than projected. MONTHLY ESTIMATE: $61,900. SEPTEMBER 22: $69,989.62.
- NEW SEWER: Myers Engineering reports the sewer extension project with Orr Construction is nearing completion. The first funding tranche is from ARPA funds granted to the Town, and the other half of the cost is from Wilson Homes. It’s for new development to the south of town.
- GRANTS: Preliminary grant applications have been submitted to: Oklahoma Department of Transportation (walking/biking trail in Wildhorse Park, and Oklahoma Water Resources Board for sewer lagoon enhancements.
- FIRE GRANT: The Luther Fire Department received a $10,000 grant for department operations. Chief Figueroa also was notified of likely receipt of the Community Fire Assist 80/20 grant for which he applied.
- POLICE GRANT: The Luther Police Department applied for a JAG grant for stop sticks, and radar units. Chief Leafty successfully applied for and received a similar grant in a previous grant cycle.
- MORE GRANTS: Five more grant applications are in the works through OWRB, Association of Central Oklahoma Governments, and Oklahoma Rural Water Association (OWRA). The applications are for replacement of clay sewer lines, new digital water meters to replace the remaining manual meters, new and replacement water valves, additional fire hydrants, and a Public Works Shop/Garage. The board will considering resolutions reflecting these on the agenda. This is an unprecedented opportunity for grant funding, and although time consuming, we are applying for as many as we can to help the Town of Luther.
- TOWN FOUNDERS DAY: The Luther Historical Society met on Oct. 3. I am personally in hopes we can plan a celebration for Luther’s 125th birthday on March 18, 2023.
- CODE ENFORCEMENT: Code Enforcement Officer Daniel McClure worked with the property owners of the dilapidated house at 302 S. Main, and a demolition of the house is expected later this month.
