Luther native Michael Voss has been hired as the new Team Leader for the Luther Public Works Authority. In this new role, Voss will perform or oversee water well, waterworks, and sewer testing, in addition to ensuring routine maintenance is performed on the LPWA and the Town’s infrastructure.
Certified as a water lab technician, wastewater lab technician, wastewater works operator, and in waterworks operation, Voss most recently served in public works at nearby the Town of Jones City, OK.
Voss joins Brian Proc in the field, and Utility Clerk Cathy Schmitz as part of the LPWA Team. Voss’ leadership will guide all public works duties, ranging from maintenance of water and sewer lines, water testing, and operating heavy equipment. Administratively, Voss will manage inventory, help with budgeting and coordinate the safety program. And, you’ll likely see him on a mower or weed-eating during the growing season.
Voss comes to the Town of Luther just in time for the upcoming construction of a new public works facility. Funded through a $208,550 REAP grant, the new shop will house all public works equipment in a secure facility.
Currently, the town utilizes the “old Town Hall” on Main Street and the back alley for public works equipment that is constrained by space for repairs and maintenance. The new secure facility will improve the efficiency of the public works department. The new building is planned to be constructed on town-owned land near the water tower, and will also feature an animal shelter. The relocation of equipment will make a building on Main Street available for lease or purchase. Before it was the former Town Hall, the building was originally a movie theater.
Voss served as an assistant football coach for Luther High School for ten years and has helped out on the family dairy farm in Luther since he was in grade school. Voss and his wife have one daughter.
